Polluted Wells in Upper Dublin Township Taken Offline Following EPA Community Meeting

The EPA Community Meeting, including the Community Panel presentation (link to video) about polluted water in Upper Dublin, has had an immediate and beneficial impact local on residents. The Community Presentation, and Mark Cuker’s interview on Action news (link), ignited a firestorm of protest, much of it from local residents who were up to now unaware of the problem. As a result, on Friday July 27, only two days later, Aqua PA announced it was shutting down the North Hills well, which was the most polluted well in its system.

This was followed by two large community meetings, one in North Hills on August 2 (sponsored by State Rep. Madeleine Dean) and the other at Cheltenham High school last night (sponsored by State Rep. Stephen McCarter). At last night’s meeting, Aqua PA announced it was finally shutting dow3n the Upper Dublin well, pending a plan to equip the well with carbon filtration which will eliminate PFAS.

These are major victories, and we thank Aqua for responding to the will of the public. But we can’t keep playing “whack-a-mole” with these wells. We need strong, enforceable regulations so that communities don’t have to “beg” water suppliers to do the right thing.

State Rep. Tom Murt has proposed legislation to regulate PFAS in PA and impose a statewide limit of 5 ppt. We urge you to support it. Please click on this link and sign the online petition to show your support!
